IELTS Writing Task 2 Topics

There is a discussion about the amount of money spent on space exploration. Although I agree that investigating celestial bodies and the unknown parts of the galaxy has significant value for our scientific theories, I think our earthly problems should be a higher priority. On one hand, spending millions of dollars on space expeditions when humans are faced with complex problems like economic and environmental issues, which our mere existence depends on, seems irrational. It is plausible to think that the fundamental condition for human scientific inquiry of space is its existence. So, facing dire problems like global warming, which threatens our lives, and as a result, our scientific theories, it is reasonable to think that solving them should be humanity’s, and therefore all governments', top priority. Investigating space is not entirely concerned with how mankind can solve its life-threatening problems, so it is of secondary importance. That is why the government should allocate most of the space program's budget to problems like the environment and economics. On the other hand, space expeditions are not a waste of money, since they are an integral part of human scientific theories. One of our main tools for overcoming our limitations is science, and one of the fundamental parts of it is the study of celestial bodies. So, it can be argued that space expeditions can develop our tools and indirectly help us. The creation of MRI was the result of NASA's investigations. Thus, space programs should not be neglected. To conclude, though I agree with allocating most of the space program's budget to the urgent needs of humans, I think these programs should also be partially financed since they can be an indirect source of tools.
