Parents should be held legally responsible for their children’s acts. What is your opinion? Support it with personal examples. The idea of making parents responsible for their children’s misbehavior has become controversial in today’s modern world. While some people argue that parents should bear the legal responsibility to reduce juvenile crimes, I believe it is truly unfair and unrealistic to put all the responsibility on parents, as there are several external influences that control adolescents' actions in today’s world. First and foremost, although I believe that parents can shape children’s character, I think that other external factors play an essential role in this case. As today’s parents are mostly busy with filled work schedules, they are not fully supervising and monitoring their children. Therefore, due to the advent of the internet and platforms such as YouTube, along with the influence of so-called celebrities, teenagers are more likely to develop misbehavior. Secondly, young people, older than a certain age, are more independent and might live alone, so it is unjust to make their parents accountable for their crimes. Moreover, making parents bear the responsibility for their children not only will not solve the problem but also will add a serious hardship on low-income families. Instead of overlooking the root causes of this issue, the government can promote the education system, raise awareness campaigns, and simulate preventive measures. For instance, a teenager who is caught shoplifting due to peer pressure will be more willing to prevent such crimes in the future if he is aware of the negative consequences of his actions from an educator, in addition to his parents' lessons. In conclusion, it is unrealistic and unjust to make parents hold the legal responsibility for their children’s actions, as today’s child is mostly influenced by social media and might be fully independent. Instead, the government can deter juveniles from committing crimes through a well-rounded education system and awareness campaigns.
