Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? It is true that foreign language learning should be provided by the educational system due to its importance for students' future. However, the grade in which these learning classes should be started ought to be considered. On the one hand, children at a younger age might sometimes not be able to overcome the stress that occurs because of final exams. That is to say, although all lessons presumably have final exams, it would be more complicated for younger students to participate in an exam written in a foreign language. Thus, kids would be under huge pressure about whether or not they can pass the exam or satisfy their parents' expectations. On the other hand, according to the latest research, the younger a person is, the faster their brain responds to skills that require a huge amount of mental activity, such as memorizing things or learning. As a result, it would be easier for primary school students than others to achieve more and obtain sufficient results in understanding non-native language rules like grammar or new vocabulary. Furthermore, children can take part earlier in speaking classes with their friends, following the rule that it is not permitted for kids to share their needs in their mother language, so they have to try to make sentences in the foreign language. Finally, they also have more free time to spend practicing different languages while they are in primary school because, in this period, students mostly learn soft skills like communication rather than mathematics and hard skills. So, it is better for students to learn a second language sooner. In conclusion, learning a non-native language in an earlier grade has both advantages and drawbacks, but it is obvious that the benefits can outweigh the disadvantages because the positive effects are more noticeable than its repercussions.
